City ops manager says feeding birds is illegal
YELLOWSTONE — Residents of this petite town at the West Entrance to Yellowstone Park have fancy enjoyed feeding the songbirds that frequent the area — but that is about to mutate. The Town of West Yellowstone has decided to crack down on feeding birds in big apple limits. On March 2, the city council passed an ordinance strengthening a 1987 display-proof ordinance and making it illegal to feed “bizarre birds and animals” in the town.
The ordinance goes into consequence in April, at the height of the songbird migration, weeks before the eminence tourist season. In April, many businesses are closed and many residents are out of township on spring break, so there are more songbirds in town than people.
Besides being full of bird-feeding hobbyists, West Yellowstone is a stylish stop for bird watchers in search of the sight and sound of many species, including the hateful-backed woodpecker, ruby-crowned kinglet, and Oregon junco.
