Council Votes To Lift Shelter Bed Limit
Though the Chapel Hill Town Council voted unanimously to lift the limit on the number of beds allowed at a homeless shelter, the decision came after much debate.

At Monday's meeting, members of the public spoke for almost an hour. Many were opposed to both the relocation of the IFC Community House and the lifting of the 25 bed limit. Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt reminded the audience that the issue at hand was an amendment to the town’s ordinance, not a referendum on the new shelter.
During council discussion, Laurin Easthom and Matt Czajkowski argued that more dialogue should take place among both town staff and the public about the criteria governing the location and size of future shelters. Others on the council worried that a change to the law would affect facilities already in operation.
