Difference between Denosyl and Denamarin?
I have a 5yr old Corgi with a liver shunt. He is currently taking the Denosyl supplement and someone had suggested the Denamarin. I was just curious as to what the difference's between the two supplements are.
■A combination of the S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) found in Denosyl®
and silybin found in Marin® that supports and protects hepatic function
â– SAMe in Denamarinâ„¢ has been shown to increase concentrations
of glutathione (the liver’s primary antioxidant/detoxifying agent),
support cell membrane fluidity and function, and protect against
apoptosis; SAMe supplementation may also be useful in stimulating
hepatic protein production
■SAMe’s beneficial effects have been shown in cases of
cholangiohepatitis,glucocorticoid-induced vacuolar hepatopathy,
and toxicity
â– Silybin is the most active of the four flavonolignan isomers found in
silymarin,an extract of the milk thistle plant
■Silybin/silymarin’s mechanisms of action include acting as a free
radical scavenger,inhibiting leukotriene production,stimulating bile
flow, modifying membrane function, and acting as an antifibrotic
â– Silybin in Denamarinâ„¢ is in a proprietary phosphatidylcholine
complex, which enhances bioavailability compared to standardized
milk thistle extracts
â– Silybin/silymarin has been shown to be effective in chronic
necroinflammatory disease,extrahepatic bile duct obstruction,and
cases of hepatotoxicity (eg,Amanita mushroom poisoning)
â– Excellent safety profile
