What are the odds that my dog will wear dog boots?
I am moving to Wisconsin in 2 months with my dog and I walk him religiously twice a day rain or shine. I already have a sweater for him (as he is short hair (English Pointer.)) I know that the salt that melts the ice can hurt his paws and boots are recommended, but he's 4 years old and has never worn anything on his feet. What are the odds that he'll allow this? And what else can I do to his paws to protect them that he might be more comfortable with?
You can throw the boots on a little at a time, don't make him go for a long walk the first time you put them on... gradually introduce the boots, it'll just take some training.
We live in Canada, and instead of boots we use special wax type stuff on our dogs feet... it's called 'Musher's Secret' and you rub it onto their feet before going out, it provides a barrier... I love it. Dog sledders use it.
We also keep natural baby wipes by the door and wipe their feet down when we come back from a walk... that keeps the dogs smelling good year round, but also gets any salt, mud, etc. off their feet before they come in the house.

Now, I long to be inconvenienced again - to be forced by Buster's persistence to go out in the freezing Peak District rain; to be woken in the middle of the
