On the front line ... Rupert and Sun's

I USED to open Rupert's paper every Sunday morning and look for his name with a feeling of mild depression.

As both his comrade and rival for ten years, I always knew he'd have a good story the rest of us had missed.

Few worked harder or went further to understand the Forces, their needs and concerns.

That was the key to his success. But he wasn't just an excellent defence journalist. Mild mannered, funny and kind, Rupert was also a thoroughly nice person without a single enemy.

His tragic death reminds us all yet again that there is no front line in Afghanistan. It is everywhere around you.

That's why it's such a dangerous place for journalists to work. Neither do the Taliban's hidden bombs discriminate. Journalist, civilian, senior officer or private - nobody is immune.

LG's Moorestown phone not coming to UK - The Frontline

European buyers tantalised by the LG GW990 smartphone that Intel demonstrated at the recent CES in Las Vegas should get ready for disappointment; the device will not be available over here.

The touch-screen device, expected for launch sometime in the second half of 2010, is based on a processor derived from Intel's Atom processors rather than an ARM chip, and runs the Linux-based Moblin platform.

However, in response to a request for more details on the device, an LG spokesperson told V3.co.uk "This handset will only be available in the US and unfortunately there are no plans to introduce it in the UK."

No reason was specified as to why LG plans to restrict the GW990 to the USA, but as it is very early days for this kind of device format, perhaps the company intends to test the water before committing itself to other markets.
