Two Abilene dog-killing incidents investigated
23.12.09
Two recent incidents in which dogs were killed have members of Rescue the Animals, police and animal control personnel looking for answers.
On Dec., a dead dog was found in a pet carrier near E.S. 11th and Castle Streets. The Petmate brand carrier was about 50 feet from the street, and a dead female red Dachshund was found inside. The crate was upside down.
A German Shepherd was shot to death Nov. 29. Tommy Stevens, the business owner, was mowing the grass at National Body Works and heard the shot that killed his dog “Butch,” who he rescued from the local animal shelter. Butch was a guard dog at the business.
“The dog made a U-turn in the yard and died at my feet,” Stevens recalled, adding he did not see the suspect.
There are no leads in the shooting. This is the second time someone shot a dog on Stevens’ property — the last time occurred in April, when a German Shepherd puppy was shot and killed.
After the November shooting, Stevens called Abilene police and animal control, who have conducted an investigation. But so far, there are no suspects in the shooting.
