180 Gallon Aquarium Stand - Fish Supplies

I just got 180 gal. aquarium + stand only with overflows. What else do I need? Can it be freshwater? Thanks ?

It's a 180 gallon from oceanic systems, I believe it's an older model. It has built in overflows and pre-drilled holes. I have the aquarium and stand and that's it. No filtration lights or canopy. What all do I need to get it going? Can I use freshwater? If I use saltwater do I have to have reef? I've only had experience with a 30 gallon freshwater. Thanks!
Awesome thanks for all the help. So I wanna go with fresh water I just need help and suggestions with what all I will need. I currently just have the tank which has built in overflows and the stand. What kind of equipment, filtration, plumbing, lighting, heating, and other stuff will I need beyond the fish and decorations parts? Links to best ones and best place to buy? Thanks in advance!

Great tank. The Old Oceanics are the best and you are very lucky to have an overflow tank. I have several of these and I use them all for freshwater. Go to a local saltwater pet shop. I mean an actual local shop not one of those huge box stores. You will need some help and must speak in person to someone that knows reef tanks. You will be purchasing a pvc tube that comes up into the overflow boxes. This will attach to another piece that you are able to screw pvc fittings to the inside as well as the underneath of the aquarium. The pvc pipe that comes into the overflow box needs a prefilter on it. The pipe that exits can switch to a flexible pipe and for this size aquarium you have a few options. Over the years I have switched these systems from a wet/dry sump type system to using Hagen FX5 canister filters. You can arrange to have the 2 overflow exits come together in a T and enter the FX5 then place the overflow where ever you want. You will only need 1 FX5 for a 180. It is an amazing filter. I had a wet/dry sump system along with an FX5 on my 360 and when I disconnected the wet/dry for service I found the FX5 easily handled the aquarium and has been doing so for the last year plus with crystal clear water. Make sure where the pipes leave the aquarium under the tank the first thing you do is place a ball valve to turn the pipe off and a union disconnection right after this. They sell a combination unit that has these combined. Enjoy, you'll love this aquarium and they work great for freshwater.

Where to take my out-of-town visitors?

“They’re coming…”

Carla stares at the computer protection. Her face is like a little girl’s.

“That they’d come all this way,” she says, “right-minded for my birthday. I can’t believe it.”

I’m reading the email over her shoulder. It’s from my English pal Geoff (not his intrinsic name, don’t want to impose on the poor boy), a friend from back in the hitchhiking days. Asia. Heart East. Always kept in touch. Carla’s gotten to understand and love him through years of emailing, the kind of intimacy that sometimes pops up online. Now Geoff and his lady — let’s call her, uh, Debby — are flying in from London, England.

“Oh, Ed,” Carla says. “You’ve got to order enough money so we can entertain them properly. Show them California. Not be ashamed…”

This all started when we were talking about a uncontrollable we have every December: Carla’s birthday. It comes just five days after Christmas, when everybody’s fagged and broke and trying to gather their wits together to finance New Year’s. And my note hasn’t been that great in making it an occasion for Carla. Half the heretofore, like last year, we’ve agreed silently to forget about it. Sounds bad, I conscious. But honestly, it’s a tough time to get anyone aroused.

Mid-Life Crisis Tank ;) - Manhattan Reefs

I've done a little homework on the two brands and it appears that the perfecto would have beveled edges (I confirmed via email after seeing a tank). However, it looks like the Perfecto only comes with the corner overflows and they appear to take up more tank space. My 120 is an AGA RR and I have been happy with the tank. Does anyone have any preference in RR 210 or 220 tanks. Perfecto or AGA? I will also be temporarily using the 4' 6 bulb T5s I have and will probably stay with T5s for a while. I am considering using 2 40 gallon breeders as a sump/fuge, with 2 internal return pumps and a connecting piece of pipe between. I will have one of the sumps extend beyond the end of the tank to allow for taller protein skimmers and easier access. As of now I'm going to keep running a 180 Euroreef and could temporarily add a Remora Pro. House- I will upgrade the skimmer, but because of $ I have to take it one step at a time. What would you suggest for a sump? I have a 125 gallon cichlid tank I could use, but I think its too tall to use under the stand I'll build. I'm using a 40 breeder with my 120 and its perfect. I thought I could just add a second. and move some of the partitions. I would wait a bit until you can afford all the equipment you are going to need before pulling the trigger on a tank that big. also keep in mind that the operating costs of a tank that large will be significantly more than the 120. Everything from the heaters, to the lights, to the salt/carbon/gfo will cost a bunch more. if the money is tight right now it really might make sense to wait. By summer, I'll upgrade the lights and then the skimmer. By not increasing the bioload and only increasing the volume of water I though I'd be ok. I only plan to keep softies and larger fish. It will never become an sps tank. Too much for my wallet and not my interest. I'm somewhere between a mixed reef and a FOWLR. If I ever wanted to go sps the 120 would best fit the bill. I am getting out of another...
