Turtle aquariums, is there anything I can use to keep them clean for longer then a week?

I clean my turtle aquarium once a week. I used peroxide and hot soapy water one week and the next week I will use bleach and hot soapy water. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep it cleaner for a little longer then a week? I am not sure it is possible though.


I uese a cheep walmart filter on mine i hav not had to cleen it for a munth and keeping fish and shirmp will it cleen to thay eat the leftovers

Atlantic Beach, NC - The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores gave nine sea turtles a temporary home after a swift drop in water temperatures brought a wave of turtle rescues along the coast in December.

The Aquarium opened its doors – and its spare holding tanks – to five green turtles, three loggerheads and one Kemp’s ridley turtle.

Intolerant of winter weather, the cold-blooded reptiles usually head to the warmer Gulf Stream waters or migrate south from autumn through spring. Some turtles, however, linger and get caught when temperatures dive.

Many turtles can find pockets of warm water in time to avoid harm. Turtles that don’t, possibly inexperienced juveniles or sickly animals, can suffer a potentially deadly condition called “cold-stunning.” Cold-stunned turtles become lethargic and unable to swim. Prolonged exposure can result in paralysis, and the turtles float on the surface or wash up on beaches.

Turtle Aquariums are not difficult to clean, but very time consuming. Turtles are reptiles messy - to eat, drink, bathe, urinate and defecate in the same water. Finally, all this mess will have dirty water can cause illness.

Dirty turtle aquariums are also a source of visual pollution at home. It 'only seems irrelevant, but it also attracts insects and bacteria. Therefore, it is important to maintain a clean aquarium, so that your tortoise can live freely and safely.

To cleanthe aquarium, you will need the following equipment:

Once you have all the material you are ready to begin cleaning.

Move your turtle elsewhere. You could probably put in a box or a children's pool. Sure that the temperate zone is about 75 degrees. You may also want to keep close to the turtle so that it canCheck On It from time to time.

Connect the plastic tube to siphon to drain the water. Direct the other end of the pipe of the sink, tub, or a window, if you want to use the water for the plants.

While the empty tank is emptied of its seawater aquarium, remove the decorations, accessories and other items from the tank. Use a toothbrush and white vinegar to clean and rinse. If you add more decorations, make sure the crowd does nottank. Also, if you take the external decoration, sterilized before adding to tank.

Clean the tank walls with a toothbrush and baking soda, especially for hard water stains. Use a paper towel and white vinegar inside the tank. Carefully brush the glass.

Once the tank is empty, remove the trapempty. Rinse the tank again, remove the residues of soda, vinegar and baking soda. Allow time to resolve the water before releasing them. By this process, at least three times. Do not use glass cleaners turtles in aquariums because they can cause problems for the turtle.
